Cancer impacts not only the patient but also their family and friends. Your experience shared will benefit the cancer community to improve providing appropriate care and support.
Would you like to share your experience as a carer?
We invite you to take part in a university research project. We are looking for participants who are willing to share and discuss their experience when caring for a person with cancer.
The research project will consist of individual interviews with each participant.
What is this research about?
One key aim of this research is to examine the communication experience between a person diagnosed with cancer and their main carer during the course of the cancer treatment stage. The experiences shared will assist to enhance patient-centred communication and improve quality care for the person with cancer.
Further, the information gathered from the interviews will provide valuable insight into cancer communication and care during the course of the treatment stage which is an area that is largely missing from existing studies.
The findings may be used to inform future policy, develop supporting tool-kits and strategies to manage effective communication and care for the person with cancer as well as their carers as a result to improve quality care for the person with cancer.
About the researcher
Shara decided to become a researcher in cancer communication and care, based on her own experience of being diagnosed with cancer. While she was in remission, she was a carer for her grandfather who got diagnosed with cancer.
Today, she is a mother of three, a lecturer and a PhD student. Juggling multiple things is in her natural nature. She started to conduct interviews in 2019 owever due to this tumultuous time she paused her research. She is now continuing with her interviews and plans to conclude the process by end of 2021.
Her professional expertise is in the area of marketing, management and communication. She has worked in the Marketing and Advertising Industry before becoming an academic.
Her PhD is very personal to her and is a direction towards her ambition to support the cancer community.

How to engage with the research
When - Interviews will be conducted till end of July 2021
Where - At a venue that is convenient to the participant.
How long - Each interview can run between 30 - 90 minutes. An audio recording of the interview will be done with the participant’s consent.
Only the researcher will have access to the individual information provided by participants. Privacy and confidentiality will be assured at all times.
Effect of your participation - Your participation will support the cancer community and cancer patient care for improvement, engagement, research, and data infrastructure.
